Avello Group was engaged to carry out a comprehensive external building wash at the iconic Melbourne Museum, one of Victoria’s most prominent public buildings. The project aimed to restore the building’s presentation while ensuring minimal disruption to visitors, staff and surrounding public spaces.

Given the complexity and scale of the structure, Avello implemented a multi-access strategy, utilising a combination of rope access, scaffold systems and elevated work platforms to safely and efficiently reach all façade areas.

Scope of Works

The project scope included:

• High-pressure and soft-wash cleaning of external façades
• Removal of atmospheric grime, pollutants and biological growth
• Detailed cleaning of high-level architectural elements
• Spot treatments to stubborn staining and build-up
• Final inspection and quality assurance across all elevations

Due to the varied façade geometry and public-facing nature of the building, Avello deployed a tailored access solution:

• Rope Access: Used extensively for complex and restricted areas, allowing precise, low-impact access with minimal footprint
• Scaffolding: Installed in key zones requiring prolonged access and higher detail works
• Elevated Work Platforms (EWP): Utilised for broad façade sections and efficient coverage of large areas

This blended approach enabled Avello to maximise safety, efficiency and quality while maintaining public safety and site operations.
